Why is Biodegradable glitter so important?

Standard cosmetic glitters are based on tiny pieces of PET or PVC plastic film and are also known as ‘micro plastics’. Micro plastics make up 85% of plastic pollution found in our environment since the small size of the glitter are hard to be filtered out and take over 1,000 years to degrade. The tiniest of organisms then ingest the plastic which creates a huge problem for the sea life and consequently, us.

Unlike most glitters, our Bio-glitter is a new technology, based on a biodegradable film that is OK Compost Home certified, Marine and waste water biodegradable, suitable for anaerobic digestion and made from renewable sourced raw materials making it much kinder for our oceans.

Microorganisms are required for the glitter to degrade, when tested to ISO14851 standards the vast majority of the biodegradable content degrades in just 4 weeks. To speed up the process, warm and wet conditions are ideal just like a leaf on dry land would take longer to degrade than in a swamp.

Our glitter offers the same extra sparkly properties as a conventional PET glitter, feels 40% softer to touch whilst having minimum impact on the environment. The biodegradable element of the glitter is made from sustainable sources, does not contain genetically modified materials or materials obtained from genetically modified organisms.

Our products are all 100% cruelty free, suitable for vegans, and never tested on animals. All pots and packaging are totally recyclable, refillable or reusable so that you can sparkle more than you already do!
